We used to say ´´seeing is believing´´; now googling is believing. With 24/7 access to nearly all of the world´s information at our fingertips, we no longer trek to the library or the encyclopedia shelf in search of answers. We just open our browsers, type in a few keywords, and wait for the information to come to us. Indeed, the Internet has revolutionized the way we learn and know as well as how we interact with each other. Yet this explosion of technological innovation has also produced a curious paradox: Even as we know more, we seem to understand less. While a wealth of literature has been devoted to life with the Internet, the deep philosophical implications of this seismic shift have not been properly explored until now. Demonstrating that knowledge based on reason plays an essential role in society and that there is much more to ´´knowing´´ than just acquiring information, leading philosopher Michael Patrick Lynch shows how our digital way of life makes us overvalue some ways of processing information over others and thus risks distorting what it means to be human. With far-reaching implications, Lynch´s argument charts a path from Plato´s cave to Shannon´s mathematical theory of information to Google Glass, illustrating that technology itself isn´t the problem, nor is it the solution. Instead it will be the way in which we adapt our minds to these new tools that will ultimately decide whether or not the ´´Internet of Things´´ - all those gadgets on our wrists, in our pockets, and on our laps - will be a net gain for humanity. Along the way, Lynch uses a philosopher´s lens to examine some of the most urgent issues facing digital life today, including how social media is revolutionizing the way we think about privacy; why a greater reliance on Wikipedia and Google doesn´t necessarily make knowledge more democratic; and the perils of using big data alone to predict cultural trends. It´s an everyday challenge: Convincing the judge that you are in the right Trying to avoid waiting in a long line to get into an event Getting a job Asking for a raise Getting your landlord to drop the rent, or at least keep from raising it Getting out of a speeding ticket Avoiding a confrontation Buying a car and getting the lowest price possible Getting a woman to like you Getting your man to worship you And on and on! Hi, I´m Gregg Michaelsen. I am a dating and life coach. Google me! I am here to help you improve your life today. I am the coach who talks directly to my readers. For the last couple of years, Google AdSense has dominated forums, discussions and newsletters all over the Internet. Already, there are tales of fabulous riches to be made and millions made by those who are just working from home. It seems that Google AdSense has already dominated the Internet marketing business and is now considered the easiest way to make money online. The key to success with AdSense is the placing of ads on pages that are receiving high traffic for high demand keywords. The higher the cost-per-click to the advertiser, the more you will receive per click from your site. Obviously, it does not pay to target low cost-per-click keywords and place them on pages that do not receive hits. With all the people getting online and clicking away every day, it is no wonder why Google AdSense has become an instant hit. For some who are just new to this market, it would be a blow to their pride knowing that their homepage is buried somewhere in the little ads promoting other people´s services. 1. Language: English. Whether it´s a faulty memory, a tendency to multitask, or difficulty managing our time, every one of us has limitations conspiring to keep us from being organized. But, as organizational guru and former Google CIO Douglas C. Merrill points out, it isn´t our fault. Our brains simply aren´t designed to deal with the pressures and competing demands on our attention in today´s fast-paced, information-saturated, digital world. What´s more, he says, many of the ways in which our society is structured are outdated, imposing additional chaos that makes us feel stressed, scattered, and disorganized. But it doesn´t have to be this way. Luckily, we have a myriad of amazing new digital tools and technologies at our fingertips to help us manage the strains on our brains and on our lives; the trick is knowing when and how to use them. This is why Merrill, who helped spearhead Google´s effort to ´´organize the world´s information´´, offers a wealth of tips and strategies for how to use these new tools to become more organized, efficient, and successful than ever. But if you´re looking for traditional, rigid, one-size-fits-all strategies for organization, this isn´t the book for you. Instead, Merrill draws on his intimate knowledge of how the brain works to help us develop fresh, innovative, and flexible systems of organization tailored to our individual goals, constraints, and lifestyles. From how to harness the amazing power of search, to how to get the most out of cloud computing, to techniques for filtering through the enormous avalanche of information that assaults us at every turn, to tips for minimizing distractions and better integrating work and life, Getting Organized in the Google Era is chock-full of practical, invaluable, and often counterintuitive advice for anyone who wants to be more organized and productive - and less stressed - in our 21st-century world. 1. The dream of a universal translation device goes back many decades, long before Douglas Adams´s fictional Babel fish provided this service in The Hitchhiker´s Guide to the Galaxy. Since the advent of computers, research has focused on the design of digital machine translation tools - computer programs capable of automatically translating a text from a source language to a target language. This has become one of the most fundamental tasks of artificial intelligence. This volume in the MIT Press Essential Knowledge series offers a concise, nontechnical overview of the development of machine translation, including the different approaches, evaluation issues, and market potential. The main approaches are presented from a largely historical perspective and in an intuitive manner, allowing the reader to understand the main principles without knowing the mathematical details. 1. Curious to discover the revolutionary technology that is shaping our future and changing the world?Deep learning is a part of the field of computer science and a subset of machine learning that involves computer systems being able to ´´learn´´ unsupervised with data that is unlabeled or unstructured. In 2017, AlphaGo, which is AI developed by Google DeepMind and started off by only knowing the rules of the game, was eventually able to train itself and beat Ke Jie, the world´s number-one ranked player at the time. Although this may not seem that impressive at first, it is important to understand that Go is a very complex game that many programmers were not able to trump with AI in the past.Although Go is an interesting example, the possibilities of using machine learning are limitless. From retail to medicine to finance, machine learning has the ability to change each industry it comes into contact with. In fact, this revolution has already begun and will only continue to get bigger. According to statista.com, the artificial intelligence industry is set to grow exponentially in the next few years from seven billion in 2018 to $90 billion in 2025! This isn´t something you can afford to miss.Without a doubt, it is the future. However, it is as complex as it is revolutionary. If you do not have a background or any experience in the field, it is easy to get bogged down by all the complicated concepts and term. And if you are at a more advanced level, the information you find won´t be thorough enough. In this book, you will find the perfect balance between the information being very thorough and being able to understand it. Although tailored for beginners, it won´t contain simple and easily accessible information. You will dive deep into the field but will be carefully led through it in a way that will make everything easy to understand even if you do not have a technical background in computer programming.
